EPA Awards, a recognition of 25 years of international trajectory
On November 22nd we were celebrating. Our CEO, Antonio Jiménez, together with the Avansi team, Viafirma’s subsidiary in the Dominican Republic, received the 2024 EPA Award in the Services category, granted by the Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Santo Domingo. The event took place at the ProDominicana Auditorium and gathered outstanding professionals and leading companies in foreign trade, sustainable development and innovation.
What is the EPA agreement?
This is the seventh edition of the EPA Awards, although the original agreement dates back to the first decade of this millennium. The EPA was created in 2008 as a trade agreement between the European Union and CARIFORUM member countries, including the Dominican Republic. Through it, the European Community immediately granted free access to its market to all export products from Caribbean countries, while CARIFORUM countries liberalized part of their markets.
Likewise, the EPA establishes the guidelines to be followed to promote the exchange of services between both parties, as well as those aimed at protecting and promoting investments, always based on free competition, the promotion of international cooperation and innovation, or the defense of intellectual property, among others.
Sixteen years after its implementation, this agreement has demonstrated its capacity to create commercial ties. In the intervening period, bilateral trade between the European Union and the Dominican Republic has tripled and the European organization has even established itself as one of the Latin American country’s star trade and investment partners.

Dominican Republic, a strategic market in LATAM
For 20 years, Viafirma has consolidated its presence in the Dominican Republic through its subsidiary Avansi, reaching great milestones. In 2006, it became the first certifying entity by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) to issue digital certificates under the Law 126-02 of Electronic Commerce. Internationally, the company operates under strict controls in both continents, guaranteeing the legal validity of signed documents, both in the Dominican Republic and in the European Union.
Both the European Union and the Dominican government are interested in making transactions as fast, convenient and economical as possible. I believe that the electronic signature provides an answer to all these concerns,

For us, receiving one of the EPA Awards, specifically in the Services category, is an important recognition of our trajectory, which already exceeds two decades.
